2 Samuel 24:24

In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

Lesson:

Introduce the verse card by reading all the way through it. Have the students read the underlined/bold print part to you. At this point, discuss the context, threads, and vocabulary (below). To conclude the lesson, have students repeat after you a phrase at a time from the bold print on the verse card, several times in a row, until they can say the lines from memory. (This usually can be accomplished in about 7 sets of repeats.)

Context for Lesson:

David had been directed by the Lord to build an altar in Araunah’s threshingfloor. When David got to his house, Araunah tried to give it to David for free. But David said,

“I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

And then David paid for it.

Threads to Weave into the Lesson:

What sacrifices are you willing to make for God? Can sacrifices be as simple as being selfless (respecting your parents even when you’re mad at them, etc)

Vocabulary Words:

threshing floor (watch one of the videos below as this is not something done in our culture today, and it is difficult to explain to a child).

Kit:

Take the stalk of wheat out of the bag. Consider checking out the link below to discuss the parts of the head and find some fun facts about wheat (including products that wheat is in BESIDES bread!)

Pull the pieces of the head apart. Try to identify the chaff, the stem, and the node. (Note: on my stalk, the kernel was not present. I assume this is because these were bought from Amazon and were specifically grown for decorative purposes. It could be confusing to kids to find the hull empty.)

Bible Literacy:

Help your student find 2 Samuel 24:24 and highlight or underline it. Consider mentioning that this site became the location of the Temple that Solomon built.
