In the Verse Kit Box:
1 piece of paper (not folded). Folding it is part of the activity.

Review:

Lesson:
Read through the verse out loud to your student. Have them read through it out loud twice. (Younger students can just do the red print part.) Then do the review (above). Circle back around to 1 Corinthians 1:18 by reading it out loud again. Talk about some of the facts below:
This verse is a compound sentence divided by a semicolon. Both sentences are saying opposite things, like 2 sides of a coin.
The first part is talking about people who are unsaved (them that perish). They think that Jesus is stupid and doesn’t make sense (foolishness).
The second sentence is talking about those of us who believe in Jesus Christ, have repented of our sin, and have Jesus as the Lord of our lives. We KNOW that there is power in the cross! According to Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Talk with your student about the cross and how it is the power of God for salvation. Make sure they understand salvation and what it means. Ask if they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Have the student read through the verse 2 or 3 more times. See if they can say it from memory. (Since this verse is so long, you may want to divide it into 2 parts and have them memorize them separately, and then put the 2 parts together.)
