Context for Lesson:
Luke 2 is the story of Jesus’ birth. After Mary wraps the baby in swaddling clothes and lays him in the manger, Luke (a doctor), goes on to talk about the shepherds keeping watch over their flock by night. Suddenly, an angel appears to them and gives them the Great News of Jesus’ birth! At the end of the message, a huge crowd of angels joins in, saying verse 14: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Ask: After the multitude of angels delivered this message and left, what happened next in the Christmas story? (See Luke 2:15 for the answer!)
Vocabulary Words:
Phrases that aren’t common anymore:
“glory to God” (giving God the credit, and the highest praise)
“good will” (many other versions translate this the following way: peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased)
Kit:
The glitter pencils remind us of angels and all things Christmas! Angels, however, weren’t cute little babies. They were fierce, strong messengers sent from God that almost always freaked people out when they saw them! (We know this because their first comment is almost always: Do not be afraid!)

Bible Literacy:
Help your student find Luke 2:14 in their Bible and highlight or underline it. As time allows, start at the beginning of the chapter and read through to at least verse 20 to get the nativity account of Jesus Christ.
