Review:

Lesson:

Context for Lesson:

David wrote most of the psalms (Psalms means songs). David was a musician, and wrote music as well as playing the harp. You may remember the story of King Saul having evil spirits and sending for David to play for him. Just like music can help us feel better when we’re sad or discouraged, music helped them too! (I Samuel 16:14-23) But instead of having music on a playlist, they had to have someone come in live to play for them.

Just like musicians today, David wrote about the things he longed for. David wanted to build the Temple, but the Lord told him no, his son would do it. David started buying the supplies (cedars of Lebanon, see v 12) so the materials would be on hand for Solomon to start building after David died. (It would kind of be like us not having a church anywhere in our country, and wanting to build one, but God telling us to wait. Even though we obey with a good attitude, we still would want the church building so all our Christian friends could come together on a weekly basis to worship God and encourage one another.)

Threads to Weave into the Lesson:

How can you be “planted” in the house of the Lord?

What do you long for, like David longed for the Temple?
