In ONE WEEK my Gramma will be 100!
And she lives with me.
Time is an interesting issue for my Gramma. It’s like the friendly enemy.
She will nap in her chair, but she will not lay down. I think it’s because it confuses her on whether or not it’s a different day.
We got a calendar to hang on her wall when she first moved in. Her eyes are getting worse, so we got a giant print tear off calendar that sits by her chair. I tear off yesterday every morning when I raise the blinds.
She wears a watch and has a giant red digital clock by her bedside.
Now that I think of it, Gramma and Grampa always had a grandfather clock hanging on their wall. Maybe marking time is a generational thing that our era doesn’t comprehend.

Interestingly enough, years ago, when we built our house and moved in, the only house-warming gift we got was from her and Grampa: a clock. With apartments being built all around our community, I’m beginning to realize this is a lost art. When was the last time you heard of someone giving an apartment-warming gift as a young married couple starts out?
Several years later, at my request, she inscribed on the back: We love you! Keep happy!

Events mark her life. She looks forward to the next big thing! Her birthday is a REALLY big deal! And when it’s over, I’d better come up with something for her to look forward to, cuz Christmas is A LONG WAYS AWAY!!!

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light: (1 Peter 2:9 KJV)
