In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

(This verse was fairly easy for the kids to pick up, so they also had time to recite as many books of the New Testament as they knew, and review the rest of them).
Lesson:
Introduce the verse by reading through it a couple of times. Talk about the illustration. Note that the man is smiling; is he happy to have a job? Where is he working? What are in the bags behind him?
Review the verses above. When you get to Colossians 3:23, reference it back to this lesson: is the man smiling because maybe he’s working with all his heart, as working for the Lord? Take the thought to the next level: when we have to work (chores, homework, clean our room, etc), does it change our attitude when we decide we’re doing it for God?
Read 2 Thessalonians 3:10b again. Do they remember who wrote Thessalonians? (Paul) Who was he writing to? (the people of the city of Thessalonica) Did Paul work? (yes, he was a tentmaker).
Have the student read the verse out loud two or three times. Ask them to say it without looking. Talk briefly about what they are doing on summer vacation, etc., then see if they can recite the verse. If not, have them read the verse card and then try to say it from memory again. Your goal is to have them hear/say it at least 7 times.
Kit: Loopy Yarn Lanyard
Our Loopy Yarn came from JoAnns.

- Put the hook on the keyring (below):

2. Skipping about 3 loops from one end, draw the 5th loop through the 4th loop and pull it down. Draw the 6th loop through the 5th loop and pull it down. Continue this repetition, making the loopy yarn look braided.

3. About 3 loops from the other end, slide the keyring on the loop.

(Note: the photo above shows only 1 loop from the end. This did not give enough length to tie it into the first end. Be sure to follow the directions above and leave 3 loops.)
4. Slide the keyring to the back of the loop, tight against the previous loop.

5. Continue with Loopy Yarn as before. Connect the 2 ends as if there was no split, continuing the repetition until the lanyard is completed.
6. Write your name in the blank on the laminated verse card. Attach it to the lanyard by using the hook on the keyring. Voila! Lanyard!
7. Connect the activity to the verse kit by reminding the student that they were WORKING to make the lanyard. If they had to make 1000 of them, it would not be as “fun” as doing this one, and they might have a bad attitude, but it’s still the same work. That is why Colossians 3:23 is so important: whatever you do, whether it’s the first time, or the millionth time, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord!

Bible Literacy:
Look up 2 Thessalonians 3:10 and highlilght or underline it.
