In the Verse Kit Box:
Praying hands mold
Baggie with approximately 1/4 cup plaster of paris

Review:

Lesson:
Introduce the verse by reading through it twice. Accent the first word of each verse (Rejoice, Pray, Give thanks) using the motions below:
Repeat the set of key words twice: rejoice, pray, give thanks.
Have the student repeat the key words.
Encourage them that they have half of the verses memorized! Tell them to make a mental note of those 3 words because you will come back to them after the review.
Review the 3 verses above, plus any that might be your favorites.
Come back to the verse for tonight by asking them to repeat the 3 key words. Mention that they are learning 3 verses tonight! They should make a point to tell their parents, because that is a lot! But they are short, so it’s not overwhelming.
Read through the verses again, then pause a minute to define CEASING (to stop, like in cease fire) and CIRCUMSTANCE (situation, like whether its a good day or a bad day). Reread verses 17 & 18 using the new definitions in place of ceasing and circumstance.
Have the student read through all 3 verses twice, but remind them before they do that after they’ve read it, you will ask them to say it without looking.
Kit:
- Items needed: mold, plaster of paris, bowl (disposable bowl is optional), spoon (disposable preferable), water

2. Pour the Plaster of Paris into the bowl

3. NOTE: ONCE YOU ADD WATER, YOU HAVE ABOUT TWO MINUTES UNTIL ITS HARD TO WORK WITH. (READ THROUGH THE REST OF THE INSTRUCTIONS, THEN DO THEM). Stir in a Tbsp of water at a time (mine took between 2-3 Tbsp). Stir until it’s a smooth sour cream-like consistency.
4. Put the plaster in the mold.

5. Mine was too full (I want it to lay flat on a surface.)

6. So I took it to the trash can and used the spoon to scrape off the extra across the back. Then I used a paper towel to wipe off around the edges so it would have clean edges when the mold was dry. Then I also rinsed out the Plaster of Paris in the bowl in the sink. It’s easier to clean now than to let it set up.

7. If you want to add a hanger to hang it on a nail on the wall, insert a paper clip into the plaster at this point. (I just want mine to lay on the dresser)
8. Pray and thank God (2 of your verses from this lesson!) for crafts and the ability to do them. Don’t take anything for granted! In some other countries, people aren’t able to do fun projects like this! And pray that you are bold enough to use this praying hands to share the Word of God with others!

9. Allow to dry. It will probably take about 24 hours, depending on humidity. Paint when dry. Photograph your results and share your photos! Use this opportunity to tell others about what you’re doing!
Bible Literacy:
Help your student find 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 in their Bible and highlight or underline it for future reference.
