Colossians 3:23 NIV Verse Kit

Review:

Lesson:

There are basically two kinds of work: work with your hands, and work with your brain. (Brain vs Brawn, if your kids are old enough to have that discussion!) Historically, people like doctors, teachers, computer engineers, and lawyers have a college degree and therefore “work with their mind.” On the opposite side, beauticians, mechanics, and carpenters work with their hands. With the overwhelming cost of college educations, the professional landscape is changing. Often people will start a job and their chosen career will pay for additional education. Trade school and on-the-job training avoid the debt load, and make the white collar/blue collar distinction less recognizable.

That was a lot of jargon for adults (some of which sit in on the calls!). To translate that into the kids’ world, that means that WORK is important, whether you’re working with your brain (doing schoolwork or reading for fun) or working with your hands (playing with playdough, playing at recess, playing with siblings or cousins). Basically EVERYTHING we do all day long is WORK! “Work at it with all your heart” means to have the right heart attitude as you do your work, which glorifies God. Whether you are doing homework for a teacher or playing with your brother/sister for mom, your ultimate Boss is God, so work at it with all your heart!

Bible Literacy:

Look up Colossians 3:23 in your Bible and highlight/underline it. This will help verses stand out to you on days when you’re brain-fried and mind-boggled. They will comfort you like a favorite blanket when you’re tired.

Note: This is the King James translation, not NIV like the Verse Kit cards.
