In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

(As many books of the New Testament as they know, and then add the next one)

(Be sure to end with this one, as it is a natural segue into our lesson)
Lesson:
I made sure to end the review time with Ephesians 6:10,11 in order to tie in tonight’s verse: 12. It’s the next verse in the passage, and with older children i mentioned that the beginning word “for” means “because” and then re-read verse 11 attaching verse 12 with “because.”
On the verse card, I only had my kids memorize the bold print lines.
(The phrases RULERS and AUTHORITIES does not refer to the president, cops, kings, or other government officials. They are synonyms for the word POWER in the following line.)
Be sure children know what “flesh and blood” mean (people). Often, when we are arguing with someone, if we can step back and realize our “struggle is not against flesh and blood,” we can learn to identify the power (of darkness) that has started the squabble, whether it’s our own selfishness, pride, jealousy, or rage. Satan wants us to argue and not get along. He is utterly opposed to all the things God stands for: unity, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, and the list goes on. Learning to recognize when Satan is at work helps us quickly achieve whatever God would prefer.
Kit:

Use school glue to attach the white ribbon to the end of the karate belt. We are in a war, and we have to fight! Just as we keep our physical body in shape and ready to defend ourselves through karate, jiu-jitsu, etc, we need to be prepared for spiritual battle too! Tie the belt around your waist and say the memory verse. Wear it the rest of the day!
Bible Literacy:
Have your child look up Ephesians 6:12 in their Bible. Try using their memorized New Testament books to find it rather than the Table of Contents. Highlight it. Read through the passage, verses 10-17. They will know this entire section within just a few short weeks!
