Ephesians 6:1

Ephesians 6:1 NIV Verse Kit

From the Verse Kit Box:

Puppy Kit

Obedience Poster

Lesson on Ephesians 6:1

Note: the placement of the tag (I am in obedience training) below the verse on the verse card was confusing for children. “I am in obedience training” is NOT part of the verse. It connects the verse, the obedience poster, and the puppy/color/ribbon/bell to make a well-rounded lesson; but the placement of the line is unfortunate.

After reading the verse out loud a couple of times to introduce it, we discussed the topic of obedience by asking: Have you heard of someone who has taken their dog to obedience training? It’s a real thing! Much like dogs, we are in training too. Every day, all day long!

Ask: “What is obedience?” After they have had a chance to reply, refer to the Obedience Poster:

Obedience is action (doing) paired with timing (when) and attitude (with a happy heart). Even as adults, we get to be obedient to God, which means our actions, timing, and attitude need to please Him.

We then learned the verse by reading/repeating/saying it without looking for a total of at least 7 times. Even a rough finish is justifiable. We will continue to review this one! (Fun fact: that’s our dog on our front porch! Best dog EVER!)

Review:

We reviewed AFTER the verse tonight. The lesson took longer than I anticipated, but there was good conversation back and forth that I didn’t want to miss. Hence, I kept review short, and primarily just went through the books of the New Testament.

Kit:

The red bracelet goes on the dog like a collar. The ribbon attaches to both the bell and the collar, and is a reminder that we are in obedience training.

Color the Obedience Poster and hang it where you can see it.

Bible Literacy:

Look up Ephesians 6:1 and highlight it.
