In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

Lesson:
Context for Lesson: Considering the depression-filled, anxiety-riddled world we live in, Philippians gives us a lot of hope. Philippians 4:7 states:
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Filling our mind with the things in verse 8 (our memory verse) will help us keep our focus where it should be, and bring the peace God promises.
Lesson Itself:
Introduce the verse by reading through it aloud.

Depending on the age of the student, decide how much of the verse they should learn. Some people skip all but the first “whatever is” and just list the adjectives (i.e. the verse would flow: “finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”) Another option is to just memorize the blue words (whatever is true, right, lovely–think about such things).
Read aloud the part they should memorize. Break it down into bite-sized pieces so they can repeat after you. Go through it at least 7 times.
NOTE: the verse card depicts Lady Justice, or Justitia, the Roman god of justice wearing a blindfold to symbolize decisions should be made without regard to a person’s wealth, power, race, gender, or social status. Having a worldview based on the building blocks of Philippians 4:8 helps us make wise decisions regarding true justice in a world that needs Jesus.
Kit:
Trace, cut, and glue the worksheets. Discuss the adjectives as you work.

Bible Literacy:
Help your students find Philippians 4:8 in their Bible and highlight or underline it. Read through the verse again.
