In the Verse Kit Box:
mini flashlight and 3 AAA batteries

Review:

Lesson:
Read through the entire verse, but let the student know they will only be memorizing the part in red at the end: Praise Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Peter wrote this letter from Rome to the Christians in Asia Minor. In the first half of verse 9, he talks about their identity: a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. If you were Peter, what words would you use to describe people who are following God’s Word?
Ask: why does Peter even bother to mention that God has called us out of darkness into light? Can your student give an example? Why should we praise God because of this?
Have your student read the words in red 2 or 3 times. Then see if they can say it without looking. (If their flashlight is put together, have them turn it on every time they say the phrase “marvelous light.”)
Kit:
Put the batteries in the flashlight. Play with it and discover shadows. Talk about coming out of the darkness into the light. How would you describe it; would you call light “marvelous”?
Bible Literacy:
Help your student find 1 Peter 2:9. Highlight or underline it together. As you read through the verse one more time, substitute their name for the word “you.” Praise Him who hath called ____________ out of darkness into His marvelous light.
