Lesson:
Point out the 119 on the verse card. Talk about how this is the loooongest chapter in the Bible! It has 176 verses! It has a section of verses for every letter in the Hebrew alphabet! (That would be like us writing a worship song that had 26 sections because our alphabet A-Z has 26 letters!)
Notice also how Psalms starts with the letter P, but it is silent, and we pronounce the S instead.
When we’re talking about the entire book, Psalms is plural. But when we are talking about a specific verse, or chapter, then it is singular (Psalm) because Psalm means song. So if we’re talking about a bunch of songs together, it’s plural; but if we are talking about one song in particular, it is singular.
Introduce the verse by reading through it while they can see the verse card. Make sure they understand the word “heart” kinda means their mind or brain in this verse. Have them read the verse too. Talk about it for a minute: we do verse kits in order to hide God’s Word in our heart. We want it there so we know how to make decisions every day. It’s kind of like when you’re about to do something, but you can hear your mother’s voice saying, “No! You better not do that!” even though she’s not there. You can hear God’s Voice when you know what His Word says.
Review the verses above. Also review the New Testament books.
Come back to Psalm 119:11. You read it to the child while they can follow along. Then have them read it out loud, including the reference. Have them read it through at least twice. Then see if they can say it without looking. If they don’t get it the first time, consider breaking it up into smaller phrases, or do it one line at a time. Be sure to hold the verse card up again at the end and read through it as you take a more personal approach, asking about their day, etc. At the end of the call, be sure to see if they can say it one last time.
Kit:
- Cut the T-shirt sleeve so it is parallel to the hemmed edge.

2. Put safety pin on 1 end of string. Insert safety pin into 1 of the holes in the hemmed edge (it doesn’t matter which one.)

3. Keep feeding the safety pin through until it comes out the other hole.

4. Tie the 2 ends of the string together in a knot and remove the safety pin.

5. With right (good) sides together, hot glue just inside the unfinished edge.

6. Let the glue dry.
7. Turn seam to the inside.

8. Gently draw up the string to make a pouch.

9. Write Psalm 119:11 on a piece of paper. Fold the paper and put it in the pouch. Hang the pouch around your neck. God’s Word is hidden in the pouch right over your heart! Is God’s Word hidden in your heart/mind too?
