Colossians 3:18,19 NIV Verse Kit

In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

(I needed a break from the books of the New Testament, so we did not do them tonight. But feel free if you’re on a roll!)

Lesson:

Tonight I started by reading through both verse 18 and 19. Then I clarified that we would only be memorizing the large print sections: Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands; Husbands, love your wives.

I then showed them the kit and talked them through the directions (below), mentioning that this symbolized the love between one man and one woman. I said that there are very few things in life that will affect you as much as your decision to marry someone who loves God as much as you do.

I re-read the large print part of both verses, and then asked them to read it out loud. And asked them to read it a second time. If I thought they were ready, I asked them to say it without looking.

We digressed for a minute and talked about the word SUBMIT and how it means to respect. I also mentioned that if their parents were both saved and following Jesus, this was something to be thankful for and tell Jesus thanks for Christian parents the next time they prayed.

I did the review at this point.

After the review, we went back to Colossians 3:18,19 and I read/recited the sections to them before asking them to read it to me and then say it without looking.

Kit:

  1. Use the crayon to draw 2 large overlapping hearts. (Note: I mentioned that on mine, the white crayon didn’t seem to repel the water very well, so maybe they should color thicker lines, or push harder to make the line darker.)
  2. Water color (whatever colors you want) across the top of the white crayon hearts.
  3. When the paint is somewhat dry, glue the wooden LOVE where the 2 hearts overlap.

Bible Literacy:

Take the time to find the verses with your child in their Bible. Highlight or underline it. Yes, it’s in the same chapter as last week! Funny how marriage is talked about in the same chapter as working with all your heart, but it’s oh! so worth it!
