In the Verse Kit Box:

Review:

Lesson:
This verse also has a cadence (rhythm) to it. Because we did the helmet about a month ago, this time we are focusing on the sword. The sword is the Word of God, which is the Bible. (The word BIBLE comes from the Greek word BIBLIOS, which means BOOK.)

Kids who have been doing Verse Kits since the beginning in 2020 will remember this card. If not, just refer to the verse itself. It has the same theme as Ephesians 6:17–the Word of God is compared to a sword. The author of Hebrews, and Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, pushes home the point that the Bible has super-natural ability to dive deep into our very soul.
The first word of the verse (TAKE) is an action verb. (The subject YOU is implied.) You must DO something to be prepared for the battle. We can’t just lay around on the couch all day and expect to win the fight while we just sit there! We have to STAND, BUCKLE, TAKE UP, EXTINGUISH, and TAKE again (v 12, 14, 16, 17).

Bible Literacy:
Look up Ephesians 6:17 in your Bible and highlight it. Consider putting a note in your margin to cross-reference Hebrews 4:12.
